Dr. Tyler Wynne has invested in high-tech equipment to fabricate porcelain crowns in-house, so you don’t have to wait weeks to restore your smile. You won’t have to “nurse” a temporary crown as you wait for your new one, and we can treat dental emergencies in one appointment. Thanks to CEREC dentistry, Carolinas BioHealth Dentistry in Clemmons, North Carolina, can repair your teeth without taking days out of your busy schedule.

How traditional dental crowns work

You can’t appreciate CEREC crowns if you don’t understand the process for placing a traditional crown. Restoring your smile with traditional crowns requires at least two dental appointments. The dentist examines your tooth during the initial appointment to determine your crown eligibility. If a crown suits you, the dentist numbs and prepares your tooth before taking manual impressions of your teeth using a gooey substance.

Since your crown takes a few weeks to manufacture, the dentist installs a temporary crown over the prepped tooth.

When your crown is ready, you’ll book another appointment with your office. Your dentist numbs your mouth again and removes the temporary crown before trying your new restoration.

The same-day crown process

While traditional dental crowns work, most patients don’t have the time for multiple dental visits. Thankfully, whether you are a busy executive or a mom with little time to herself, you can restore your smile with crowns without the wait. Using CEREC dentistry, Dr. Tyler Wynne can prepare, manufacture, and install your crown in one day.

After preparing your tooth, we use a small, hand-held camera to take your bite impressions — no room for messy impressions. Then we use a computer-aided design (CAD) unit to design your crown. Since this process is done on a chairside screen, you can give feedback to participate in creating your new crown.

Once Dr. Wynne approves your crown design, we use an in-house milling machine to carve your crown out of a ceramic block, which only takes about 15 minutes. Because all the crown processes are handled right here in our office, the two to three weeks waiting time doesn’t apply. We prepare and create your crown as you relax in our waiting room.
