Veneers 101

Veneers are largely prepared dental materials placed and fixed to the front surfaces of the teeth in the “smile zone” or visible when you smile. Veneers may be made from dental ceramics such as porcelain or dental composites, a combination of plastic resins and glass particles. Once adhered securely to the teeth, these materials disguise or cover up a variety of cosmetic imperfections. These imperfections include:

  • Chips
  • Small fractures or cracks
  • Stubborn or intrinsic discoloration
  • Very yellow or dark stains
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Other spacing issues

The dental materials or veneers may also be designed to add length to a worn or overly short tooth. In Dr. Wynne’s capable and skilled hands, veneers may also be used to recontour an irregularly- or poorly-shaped tooth completely.

The Process

We can complete veneers in a few visits or in some cases a single visit. The first visit involves preparing the natural tooth and fabricating each veneer. We recountour only the minimal amount of natural enamel or in some cases add to the enamel to get the longest lasting most aesthetic result. We support the veneer’s natural appearance, healthy function, and durability by providing a proper fit and strong bond between the veneer and tooth structure. We will also collect information about the teeth to be veneered and use it to guide the fabrication of each veneer.

After the veneer has been made, Dr. Wynne will ensure it looks and fits perfectly before securing it permanently to the tooth. As with all services and procedures at our practice, composite and porcelain veneers are biocompatible and appropriate for patients with sensitivities to other materials. They are precisely made from only the highest-quality longest lasting materials. With consistently good at-home oral hygiene and professional care at Carolinas BioHealth Dentistry in Clemmons, North Carolina, veneers can last and look great for many years.

Veneers

Veneers
Veneers are thin handcrafted porcelain shields worn on the front of the tooth which improve the appearance of teeth that are chipped, cracked, stained or worn. Veneers are thin as contact lenses, and are an aesthetically pleasing option of closing gaps, lengthening teeth, and providing symmetry to make your smile more natural. Veneers are intended to last for many years without changing color. They are one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in dentistry. Ask your dentist if veneers may be right for you.
